Replacement for the Evac vacuum sewage pump (VEM 5.5 kW motor, 2006, expired). Target unit: EBARA 3S 50-160/7.5 IE3, 3~400 V, EN 733, AISI 304, 7.5 kW, part no. 1338890006I. Crate: 95.7 kg packed, 70 × 49.8 × 35 cm (Ebara 3 Series Data Book Rev. Z).

The consignee decision (read before booking cargo)

Put a person, not a company, on the air waybill. Consigned to an individual, the pump clears Velana as a personal-use import: over-the-counter goods declaration, self-cleared, invoice in hand, 20% duty on the value above the MVR 10,000 traveller allowance. Consigned to MNAAM, it becomes a commercial import: business import permit plus the ASYCUDA process. Same duty, far more friction. If MNAAM needs it on the books, invoice it internally after clearance.

Dubai side, step by step

Lock the supplier Monday morning from RFQ replies plus a call to Ebara ME (+971 4 883 8889). Ask for export invoice without VAT if possible; otherwise pay the 5%.
Buy, and have it crated cargo-ready. Factory carton is 70 × 49.8 × 35 cm, 95.7 kg: inside every flydubai limit (max 100 kg / 135 × 121 × 86 cm per package).
Book cargo direct with flydubai: Cargo.DubaiSales@flydubai.com, +971 600 54 44 45. Individuals can be the shipper (their own Conditions of Carriage). Emirates SkyCargo is the documented fallback: walk-in Counter AWB, AED 150.
Deliver the crate to dnata Freight Gate 3 (Dubai Airport Freezone, Loop C walk-in, cash at counter). General cargo cutoff 8 h before departure, Priority 4 h with guaranteed flight. Bring the supplier invoice; the counter or a clearing agent files the Dubai export declaration.
Done. The crate lands MLE the same day or next; MACL holds it 80 hours free.

Malé side, step by step

Arrival notice goes to the mobile and email written on the AWB, so put the collector's number on it.
Customs Documentation Section: file the personal-use goods declaration with the supplier invoice (form MCS-145 only if there is no invoice).
Pay: 20% duty on CIF above the allowance, 1% revenue fee, roughly MVR 15 declaration processing. MVR cash or card, on the spot.
MACL counter: handling + storage + AWB admin, about MVR 261 total inside the free window.
Examination Section releases the crate. Done. Budget half a day.

Verdict

Flying to Dubai adds roughly AED 3,800 (MVR ~16,000) over the agent path for flights and two hotel nights, and buys three things: your own eyes on the pump before money moves, in-person leverage across the Deira shops, and zero dependence on the agent's follow-through. The crate travels as cargo either way; nobody's presence changes anything at the freight counter. If the agent is solid, path B wins on money. If this pump must be right the first time, path A is worth the difference. Either way, book nothing before Monday's quotes land.
